Teaching Testimonials

  • Seth J., Age 17

I’ve been a student of Vered’s for over six years, and I can honestly say that in that time she has transformed my piano playing. Starting with Vered as a middle school student, I had a strong piano foundation. Vered not only strengthened my technical foundation, but also helped me grow as a musician. I always love starting new pieces with Vered because I am not just learning the notes on the page, but also about the style, the composer, and the period, and how it relates to the greater context of what I have played. Even when we have revisited pieces I’ve previously studied for auditions and competitions, I am always amazed at how much I have learned, and how much more there was and is to learn. Not only have Vered’s teachings impacted my piano playing, but also the way I listen and approach music in general.

As I graduate high school and move on to the next phase of my life and my piano studies, I feel thankful to have had the opportunity to study with Vered all of these years, and completely prepared to study at the college level. And while I am not continuing on to conservatory, I feel confident that Vered’s teachings have prepared me to tackle any piece put before me.

Having your children study piano with an internationally-recognized concert pianist like Vered Reznik is rare, but having your children learn with someone who is as talented a musician as she is a gifted teacher, is rarer still.

Like all great teachers, Vered’s warmth allows her to forge an immediate connection with her students and she understands that a child’s success is part technique, theory, motivation, joy and persistence. Vered artfully nurtures each of these areas while setting attainable, yet challenging goals for her students all while instilling confidence. Her genuine concern for your child’s personal growth as a musician and most important, as a human being, is palpable in every discussion, lesson and piece of music selected.

Having had two of my children study with Vered, it is amazing to see how she approaches each child as an individual and customizes her instruction – the pace, rigor, performance schedule etc. – to ensure each student reaches his or her potential.

  • Stella L., Age 7

Ms. Vered is a very nice teacher. When I made mistakes many times, she showed me the details in a fun way so I can remember. I love having piano lessons with her every week!

  • Rosemary M., Age 16

Musically I would not be where I am today without Vered. She engaged me from a young age of 5 with the Suzuki method at first, training me not only in the arts of piano, but my ear. The 8 years I spent as her student laid down the foundation for me as a cellist and shaped me not only as a musician, but as a person.

Vered has been teaching piano to our 11 year old son Leo for over four years and also more recently to our 7 year old daughter Lara. It has been an amazing experience and it is challenging to even begin to express in words what she has brought to our family. Vered's incredible technical abilities both as a musician and as a teacher are immediately apparent to everyone, but we feel it is the wonderful relationships she builds with the children and the huge amount of effort she invests in giving them opportunities to perform (and eventually compete) which make her truly unique.

Vered has such a kind, patient and loving manner with children and always manages to strike the perfect balance between nurturing, encouraging and building confidence, whilst also getting the students to work genuinely hard and keep striving to fulfil their potential. Her lessons are such a fun and positive time for the kids and it has been remarkable to see how quickly they can progress and what demanding pieces they can soon tackle whilst still enjoying themselves every step of the way.

Vered has devoted so much energy not just to lessons, but also organizing and hosting lovely musical parties for the students, recitals for family members to attend, preparing our son for piano festivals and competitions, advising us often about how to practice at home, and even helping us to choose musical summer camp options and supporting us through the whole process of finding and buying a grand piano. Even though we hope we are still near the beginning of a lifelong musical journey for our children, we simply could not imagine undertaking it without Vered there to guide us!

After her Suzuki Book 1 graduation recital, my 7-year old daughter Stella often says “Mama I love piano”. A Big THANK YOU to Ms. Vered!

Ms. Vered started to teach Stella about one and a half years ago. After one or two lessons, she introduced Suzuki’s methodology, with tailored plans based on Stella’s strength (relatively better in sight-reading) and weakness (quite weak in aural skill). Like “precision medicine”, Ms. Vered offered precision piano teaching which is a perfect fit for my daughter. Suzuki methodology really trained Stella’s ears significantly, and teaches her how to be a great listener and observer; on the other hand, Ms. Vered arranged non-Suzuki pieces for Stella to read and play which kept up her sight-reading skills. Stella now is happily exploring Suzuki Book 2 and other books with Ms. Vered’s guidance.

Ms. Vered’s teaching is not just the 45 or 60min during the class - she spends time communicating with parents – to discuss her plans and teaching philosophy, receive feedback, guide parents how to help students at home which is really important for little young beginners. She is so passionate about music and teaching—always tries to offer the best to her students. When the schools reopened in Sept. 2020, she was one of the few teachers in the Music School who was willing to teach in-person. We are really grateful to have Ms. Vered as Stella’s teacher during her music journey!

  • Ann Tarumoto, Adult Student

I came to Vered as an adult student of a very certain age. I had never studied an instrument but having watched my daughter, a violinist, slog through scales, numerous etudes and endless repetitions of musical passages to attain that elusive perfection of intonation, I thought I knew a thing or two about learning a musical instrument.

But surprise! Vered showed me something different. She taught me how to approach a new piece, using tricks, some easy, some difficult but never mind numbing. I felt like a squirrel with a new nut to crack. Not to say that there weren’t some tough times but Vered was always supportive and positive. I will never play at Carnegie Hall but I was able to accomplish my goal of playing Eric Satie. More importantly, I learned that the process of learning to play the piano is fun and I look forward to sitting in front of the keyboard and feeling the keys under my fingers. Thanks Vered!!

Vered has taught my son for more than two years. My son Allen is currently 17, a sensitive, sometimes moody teenager. We are very lucky to have her. She is warm and patient, also attentive to each student’s emotion and needs. She will go extra miles for a student. My son loves music, Vered even brought him to her musical friends group in Mahattan, it really opened his view.

Under Vered’s guidance, my son played and performed many master pieces music by Rachmaninoff, Brahms, Chopin Beethoven, and also contemporary music. Besides that, she also deeply care each student and shared with us what type of college atmosphere will be most nurturing for him.

We deeply appreciate everything Vered did for Allen. Everyone has many teachers in their life, but very few put their heart on you. Vered is one of those teachers put her heart on her students.

  • Sarah K., Age 13

I have been playing piano for seven years and working with Vered for four years. Throughout this period of time, I have greatly improved in piano. When I was working with my prior teachers, I would learn a piece a year for the sole purpose of playing it in NYSSMA. I learned very little about music theory, practicing techniques and how to memorize pieces.

When working with Vered, I learn pieces that will help me improve. She not only teaches me what to play, but how to play it with proper technique, understand how the music itself works and how to efficiently improve. Instead of telling me what to do, she gives me tools and ways to practice so that I can eventually use what she is teaching me to be more independent. Many things that I have learned I am able to transfer to new pieces and helps me improve my playing overall.

  • Wenhui Guo, Parent

Having our son start piano with Vered is one of the wisest decisions we have made. Like a lot of the other parents, we were not quite familiar with the Suzuki method at the beginning, and not so sure how it will be for our 5-year-old super energetic boy. However, it was totally out of our expectations to hear him sing the Suzuki songs on his ride to the grocery, to watch him rush to the piano and play every morning when he gets up, and to notice him searching for piano music during his 10-minute screen time each day. He is so into it, and has learned and grown so much from his piano lessons. We are absolutely very glad about his progress.

  • Heather Mahajan, Parent

Vered has taught my daughter for nearly 4 years, and my son for about 2 years. We absolutely love having her as a teacher. Both of my children progressed rapidly with Vered, especially my daughter who is very passionate about playing piano. Vered realized my daughter's capabilities and put together a customized program whereby she grew tremendously in a short period of time. For my son, she incorporated many pieces that were completely different from my daughter. Most importantly she worked with both kids to find pieces that would help them grow musically as well as pieces they enjoyed playing. With Vered it is not a one-size-fits-all approach, but a highly curated plan that helps each child reach their full potential.

We were lucky to find Vered through a friend, and she is the best thing that happened to my children in terms of their musical education. Not only is she a phenomenal musician herself, she is incredibly dedicated to her students. She takes recordings during the lessons so that the student can review it at home while practicing, writes detailed notes for the students and is always setting new goals. She never hesitates to call me to discuss my children's progress, give support or praise.

Thanks to the piano parties, recitals, and Zoom recitals, my kids are comfortable performing in front of anyone. They love playing for friends, at school in front of their music class (they actually request to perform!) and anyone that comes to our house. They have no stagefright thanks to all of the exposure Vered has given them from a young age. They have also participated in theory and piano competitions, and for each recital and competition Vered worked with them so they could perform to the best of their abilities.

Having Vered as a teacher is akin to having a musical mentor for both the child and parent. It is truly a partnership. If you have a child (and parent) who is very interested in piano and is committed to putting in the work, then I highly recommend Vered for your child's musical education as it is rare to find an instructor as dedicated and talented.

I am 12 years old and have been Vered’s student for a long time. She teaches me in fun ways and I have learned so much. Vered teaches not just piano playing, but with many different activities to make you better at piano. I have become so much better over the years I have studied with Vered!
