Teaching
Vered has been teaching students for over 30 years, and considers her role as educator as central to her musical life. She currently maintains an active teaching practice for students of all ages and abilities from her home studio in Larchmont, and at the Hoff-Barthelson Music School in Scarsdale, where she is a member of the Piano faculty. Her teaching ranges from Suzuki-style programs for young children and their parents, to college and conservatory prep for high school students, to lessons for professional and amateur adult musicians.
Vered’s goal is to have the student exit each lesson feeling excited, inspired, and that they have learned something new. Consistent practicing at-home is critical to student success and growth, and Vered strives to help students and parents find balance and motivation to make practicing part of the daily routine. Student performance is a key part of the studio. Students are encouraged to perform frequently throughout the year in recitals, as well as low pressure student-only “play-ins” and holiday parties. Vered believes that performance gives the students motivation, community, and positivity that enhances the entire learning process. From the earliest age, students are taught how to feel confident performing in front of others, and how to conduct themselves as young musicians and performers. Older students have the opportunity to participate in local auditions and competitions.
Vered is an Abby Whiteside Foundation teacher, and was a long-time student of the noted teacher Sophia Rosoff. Through her performances and teaching, she serves as an active advocate of the Whiteside and Rosoff school of playing. Vered is also on the board of the Westchester Musicians Guild and an active member of New York Music Teachers Association (District 4). She is a certified teacher of the Alexander Technique, and a member of the American Society for the Alexander Technique (AmSAT).
