Ben-Haim Sephardic Melody from Three Songs without Words
Broadcast on WQXR for Holocaust Remembrance Day (@ 49:30)
German and Israeli Composers on Jewish Themes is a collaboration with the New York based German cellist Wolfram Koessel on a program of music by German composers and Israeli composers of German descent.
The program is dedicated to composers who formed a successful link between the Germanic tradition and Jewish culture, both in Germany and Israel. Works by Beethoven, Bruch, Stutchevsky, Ben-Haim, and Mendelssohn touch on a range of Jewish themes including prayer, folk music and history.
This program has been performed throughout Israel, and the East Coast of the US, including the Goethe Institute, Columbia University, and a special gala performance for the German and Israeli Embassies in Washington, D.C. celebrating 40 years of diplomatic relations.
